I have just read your Miami Herald piece on Barcelona becoming the home of a huge number of cruise ships. I fully agree with you that Barcelona is one of the most appealing cities in Europe, but it is also one of the most DANGEROUS.
We have been to Barcelona numerous times, usually spending a few days there before taking a cruise and sometimes on a stop on the way home to Florida. We rarely spend a day there without meeting someone who has been robbed - usually their luggage, sometime their wallets and handbags. Their stories are almost always the same - they look away and it is gone! They tell of long waits at Police Stations and now, many of those who are robbed, don't even bother to report the crime.
We have never experienced a robbery in Barcelona or even Rome, which was more noted for it. Barcelona's Police are either unable or unwilling to put an end to this preying on tourist - and I hope the cruise lines are able to put pressure on the municipal authorities to put an end to these crimes. At the very least, the Cruise companies should alert their passengers to be aware of the risk and not allow their luggage out of their site.

Why is it that you did not mention VANTAGE in your article in Cruises that appeared in the Senior Beacon recently? It is a marvelous agency that I have used in the river cruises they have had to Russia, The Danube, and soon The Rhine. Thanks.
